What's going on?

We're proud to announce that we are merging with LaCie as of March 2009.

Who is LaCie?

Why are you merging with LaCie?

LaCie is the perfect match for us and will bring us to the next level. What we dreamed of when starting Wuala will now come true. Together with LaCie we will realize the vision we embarked on more than four years ago while researching the basics of Wuala at the ETH Zurich: to build a reliable and secure cloud storage by integrating millions of devices around the world. Additionally, the merger with LaCie gives us not only new operational resources, but also plentiful new ideas and visions, which we wouldn’t have been able to implement as a pure software company.

How do Wuala and LaCie match?

Wuala stands for innovative online storage, while LaCie has become a synonym for premium quality and well-designed external storage hardware during the last 20 years. By combining our core competencies, we’re able to create new, exciting products which offer the convenience of fast local access and backup as well as the versatility of online storage. Together we want to revolutionize the storage industry. We’ll keep you in the loop!

What are the terms of the merger?

The terms of the merger are confidential.

How does this affect me as a user?

You’ll only benefit: Soon, there will be additional offers and products with Wuala running on it. The merger will not affect your current use of Wuala at all. We will continue to work on Wuala, just like we've been doing during the last several months.

Can I still sign up for a new account?

Yes, of course you can.

How will the merger affect the privacy?

Wuala is all about protecting the user’s privacy and this won’t change at all. All your files are encrypted before they’re uploaded and your password never leaves the computer. No one, not even we (be it Wuala or LaCie), can see your files.

I've bought online storage! What will happen now?

Nothing new will happen to your storage, everything will continue as it is.

I'm trading storage! What will happen now?

I want to buy storage. Will there be any pricing changes?

Currently we are not planning any changes in pricing.

What will happen when the first product is released? Can I then only use Wuala with a LaCie product?

No. You will still be able to use Wuala as you use it today.

Will there be staffing changes at Wuala?

Yes, we plan to expand! Other than that, nothing. The whole team will continue with LaCie and will stay in Zurich. Dominik and Luzius will remain with the company and will additionally be part of the management at LaCie.

Will you still listen to the community?

Yes, of course. We will keep on making every effort to listen to you as we did before. You know us: We won't change that attitude.
